LIFE PROGRAMME PROTECTS LIFE AND HELP TO CONTRAST CLIMATE CHANGE |
The LIFE Programme is the financial instrument of the European Union for the support of environmental projects, nature protection and climate actions across the EU. Since 1992, LIFE has co-funded around 4171 projects, contributing around 3.4 billion euros for environmental and climate protection.
The overall objective of LIFE is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of the EU's environmental and climate policy and to legislation for the co-financing of projects with European added value.
The overall objective for the period 2014-2020 is to contribute to the sustainable development and achievement of the objectives and targets of the "European 2020 Strategy", and of the strategies and plans of the European Union concerning the environment and the climate.
The "Environment" sub-programme includes three priority areas of action:
- Environment and efficient use of resources
- Nature and Biodiversity
- Environmental governance and environmental information
The "Climate Action" sub-programme includes three priority areas:
- Mitigation of climate change
- Adaptation to climate change
- Governance in climate and climate information
SEAFOREST LIFE is part of the "Climate Actions" sub-programme, in particular in the sub-programme "Climate change mitigation."
The Environment and Climate Action sub-program (LIFE) for the period 2014-2020 is based on the provision of solutions and best practices to achieve environmental and climate objectives in relation to changes in development and policy and by promoting innovative technologies in the field of environment and climate change.
